Jackson Named Editor of ASHE Reader Series

The Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) has selected WISCAPE Faculty Affiliate Jerlando F. L. Jackson as the next editor of its popular series of compendiums.

Volumes in the ASHE Reader Series consist of previously published articles and book chapters representing exemplary work in the field. The readers are used extensively by faculty and students in higher education programs throughout the country, as well as scholars, policy analysts, and leaders in higher education, business, and government, to stay informed about issues affecting higher education in the United States and abroad. The series is commonly viewed as the canon of the field.

Jackson, associate professor of higher and postsecondary education in the UW–Madison Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis, will serve a five-year term effective Nov. 2009. WISCAPE will house the editorship and provide financial support for a managing editor throughout the term to assist Jackson with his new and current editorial responsibilities. Jackson also serves as the senior associate editor for the Journal of the Professoriate and is responsible for managing the external review process.

"The selection provides the opportunity for me to help shape and guide the future direction of this important series published by the premier national higher education research association," says Jackson.

The duties of the position include issuing calls for and reviewing proposals; acting as the official liaison with the series publisher; coordinating with individual editors of each volume; and working with the ASHE Reader Series Advisory Board and ASHE Publications Committee.
